Shabana Azmi went to Bangladesh for a short period on Saturday where she was to attend a ceremony in Dhaka. This ceremony was arranged in honor of supporters of 1971 Bangaldesh's War Of Liberation which included Shabana's late father Kaifi Azmi with other 57 dignitaries from all around the world. Here Shabana went to represent her father however she needed to come back to Mumbai the same day for her mother's birthday.
It was made very clear by Shabana to the organizers of this event that she could attend this function only for few minutes and would need to go back to the Dhaka International Airport to catch the flight back to Mumbai on time to reach for her mother's birthday. Asina ordered for the entire route from the function to the airport to be cleared for Shabana and she was escorted by government vehicles to the airport.
Shabana herself confirmed this news and said that she was able to leave the venue of the function seconds after receiving the honor for her father and thus she could make it to the 84th birthday celebration of her mother. She said that she received government and police escort and the road was all clear with no traffic to hurdle her to reach the airport on time.
Other famous icons to receive honor were George Harrison and Joan Baez.
