Biography: He made his debut in Rajkumar Santoshi\'s
Barsaat, for which he won a Filmfare Best Debut Award. The movie was
the sixth highest grossing movie of the year 1995. His next big hit was
the murder mystery Gupt. The film was not only a box office hit but was
also critically acclaimed.
In 1998, the Bobby Deol-starrer Soldier
was a lukewarm hit and Deol received much acclaim for his role as a
mysterious killer. He did not make much of an impact in the following
years, meeting with only a moderate success, although he did win
acclaim for his portrayal of real-life freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in
23rd March 1931: Shaheed which also starred his brother Sunny as
Chandrasekhar Azad. His trend of box office failures, however,
continued.
Lately, his films have been doing well overseas than in India.
In June 2007, at the recent IIFA Awards show, Deol broke into tears
when he was called upon the podium by his father Dharmendra, after his
father received the IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award.
